Hi,

Is there a way OpenKM retain the actual creation date of a document?

for eg.
The document was created may be on 01.12.2011,say the document is sitting on the user's HDD for a while and the user uploaded the document to OpenKM on 05.12.2011, and again he modified the document on 07.12.2011.

Are all of these date capturable in OpenKM?

If not this would be an important feature request for most of us I believe!

Thanks with regards,

This is an studied feature not yet implemented. Really we've got on mind capture some data like creation, user who has modified etc... and include into some metadata standard structure. We're not sure be good idea changing default date value ( uploading to document creation ), it's something that we still have on discussion in some cases seems interesting but not in others, for it reason we've been thinkind doing as we're doing now and add some metadata values at initial document uploading.

That has only one problem, the search by date. What do you think about it ?

Hi jllort,

Thanks for the info.

I will break down my discussion on this into two categories
1. Frontend
2. Core system

1. Frontend
a. My suggestion would be to include additional column(s) to indicate the dates (Created, Uploaded, Modified). This can also be user selectable, i.e. the user can decide whether he likes to have only the created and modified dates
columns.
This will give advantage in sorting the files in date order for all three - Created, Uploaded, Modified (I believe) and easy to see on the screen once sorted.

b. Showing the dates in the properties tab - this will be a simple solution (again I believe)

2. Core system - Databse.
If all three dates are stored in three different tables then it is a matter of seleting a checkbox, or a dropdown list for the type of search the user need. This will then search through the relevant tables and display the results.

Please note that I am only an end user, just putting up my thoughts which may seems stupid in the programming side.

So please take these as a possible concepts only.

Thanks for your outstanding software.

Cheers,

I've added feature here http://issues.openkm.com/view.php?id=1948 we must talk about it.

Now could be solved with metadata and core extensions. With core extension can use some library to extracto document information and automatically assign it to the document. Some information about core extensions here http://wiki.openkm.com/index.php/Extension_Guide
