Scanner Applet with saned network Scanners

I have a multifuntion printer/scanner that is connected to a server. The scanner function is shared over the network using saned which allows any computer to have direct access to the scanner as if it was a local sane scanner.

When I try to scan with the scanner applet in OpenKM it fails to find the saned scanner. Looking through the applet's source code there is an scanner option LocalOnly which is set to true. I assume that this tells libsane to only look for local printers. Is there any way to change this option through configuration? Could it be added to the GUI?
