In the same line of discussion of my previous post (Succes story with JDK 6 (aka 1.6)), I think your "Quick Install Guide" should be updated to instruct users to define system-wide environment variable JAVA_HOME.

As a matter of fact, no matter which JDK you're installing (1.5 or 1.6), JAVA_HOME is never defined by the setup. This has to be done manually.

Off-topic: I don't know why OpenKM would need such variable. You see, I use other Java based applications like Eclipse, Tomcat or NetBeans, they all manage (well, more or less) to find JRE or JDK automatically. But this is another discussion.

Really problems on java configuration appears when there\'re several jdk installed on same computer. Then java_home might be set on run.sh or run.bat to ensure jboss is using the correct jdk.

Really OpenKM not needs it, it\'s needed by jboss, the application server. OpenKM uses jboss - application server - infrastructure.

Quick install guide is writen to lower computer knowledgements users. For it reason JAVA_HOME is not explained. We consider the case that user has no java installed on his environment ( I know, it could be unreal ... ). But we prefer to set the guide as minimal as possible and if users have problems post on forum. On major cases installation goes well.

Hmm... I'm not convinced that not writing out setting JAVA_HOME would set the guide as minimal. Rather, I think that would reduce your user set to a minimal ^_^

You know, for some users (no idea about the percentage), if things don't work for the first time, they would simply walk away.

So at least put this point in your FAQ. But well, it's your product. Do as you like.

Actually, this is a hole. I just installed Java and OpenKM on a fresh WIN 2003 server instance, tried both JDK 1.5 v22 and JDK 1.5v15 and in both cases the ..jre6\\bin\\server directory is missing - which stops JBOSS loading.

So, I copied the client folder to a new server folder so that jvm.dll is now available at ...jre6\\bin\\server\\jvm.dll

Now JBOSS loads fine without needing to set JAVA_HOME. I am no Java/JBOSS expert so I don\'t really know whether this is the right solution.

Further, it seems that the JBOSS server only runs when you launch OPENKM\\bin\\run.bat which is clearly inappropriate since it should really run as a windows service. I will have to try to launch the run.bat at server startup... Is that correct - there seems to be no documentation to cover this area!

Further still, having launched run.bat i can access the system from a local browser. BUT, I cannot get to the system on a client browser on another machine on the network. So, how do we set this up so that we can access from remote device. Again, I can\'t find any documentation on this!

So, if anyone can direct me to resources that deal with running OpenKM as a windows service and accessing from a remote client I\'d be really grateful.

Take a look here to run jboss as service.

About quick install guide we\'ll change when we\'ll release the next OpenKM version. Really now is better installing jdk 1.6 than 1.5, about problem with windows .dll missing library is caused by change made by sun in update 15 ( if I\'m not but ) reason why you must not donwload jre version because has not present this library and you must install jdk.

We\'ll be thinking on make some installation wizard.

Hi All,
I am facing problem of accessing OpenKM from a remote client, has any one tried this?
I found that accessing this from other machine requires running JBOSS with parameter -b 0.0.0.0. However, starting OpenKM requires running run.bat of OpenKM which runs run.bat of JBOSS.Hence running Jboss with above parameter is not possible.

Please suggest.
