Hi,

Just a quick question. My company currently sells a series of qms documents via a custom developed piece of software. Is it ok, as in not violating the GPL, to use OpenKM to deliver it via the web and still charge them?

My understanding of the GPL is that we must disclose any changes we make to the software (which will be zero likely) and make available a copy of the modified program, either via download or provide an address to write to.

Is that right?

Not exactly. There're other interesting options that I'll not explain in forum. Contact with us using contact form http://www.openkm.com/Contact/

About your question.
1- You can not sell OpenKM software.
2- You can sell your own enhancements, code changes, parametrization, installation work etc... but with default GPL community licensing you must provide us all the changes you've made ( are other options more interesting that these ... if you're interested in create your own plugins, features etc... )

Now I'm working to finishing 5.0 OpenKM plugin API
http://wiki.openkm.com/index.php/Create ... extensions
http://wiki.openkm.com/index.php/Widget_library

In two weeks I think it'll be finished. In OpenKM 5.0. we've introduced plugin architecture in order to make extensible UI api and core.

Hi,

Sorry I dont think I explained very well!

We are not looking at selling OpenKM, as in packaging it and selling it, simply loading it on a server and then loading our own QMS documents in there. We then charge people for access to the documents. Is that allowed? I was under the impression this was covered by the GPL. Like I say, we are not going to sell copies of the software, we will simply use it as a platform to charge for the content that we have written ourselves.

Failing that, are you saying that we could make some changes to the software, dislose those changes and then set up the portal and charge for access?

You can charge for any service that hosting, supporting etc.. for any job you're involved, there's no problem on it.

About second option, you can make changes in software and charge for it too. But in these case you must provide to us that software changes in order GPL licencing. There're other formulas that these changes can be totally to you and must not be provieded to us ( to comercialize that).
