I think zoho has something in the way you're talking but if this feature is possible with zoho us we restrict it, because there're a lot of problems on integrating added or deleted data with serveral users working with same document. I would like understanding better how it works, because for me is real strange that this will be an automatic procedure.
Actualy zoho integration is only for live edit.

I will just be giving my opinion here, i may be wrong (most probably i am)...
first of all, multi edit is dam cool but not a critical feature imo...
now on to how it works: i believe multi edit works by locking the
sections inside the documents instead of the whole document. openkm locks the document at the moment, if you take that coding up a notch and create a lock region where the person is editing then highlight it to all other users in the document and locking them out of that area that should be your multi edit feature.
If multi edit is explored there should be 1 additional protection: that is the lock regions being created for the first user should only be created when another user trys to edit the file. If that is not done there will be heavy writing to the db and harddisk which in the long term could be dangerous for the harddisk.
sounds easy... in theory

or you could just wait for google docs to release their api and link it up

im juz sayin... xD
i prefer not to reinvent the wheel if its already made...
only prob with google docs is their api is still hush hush...
IF (thats a big if) google docs released their api then you could just remove the locking mechanism provided the system was linked to google docs as an editor and tadah! minimal coding required.
Not sure if openoffice has such features...

OpenKM is distributed in several ways, we have been trying be adapted to major user needs. I suggest you contact with us using our contact form
http://www.openkm.com/en/contact.html.
The most cheapest OpenKM version are:
1- Buy OpenKM software licence + profesional extension price ( you can buy all, or only one ). That not includes professional supporting services only includes we installing and certifying the installation ( for the same price if you want ) and then we install the extension you have buyed.
2- There is a cheap cloud that still we have not yet started to comercialize and we're finishing to define. It'll have a good price / service ( very competitive ). Really we are working in two ideas cloud and SAAS and will be different services. Cloud will be low price to arrive a more extensive customer target to cover some user need we have detected that actually we not offering solution, and SAAS will be a service for middle and great infrastructures. Really we still not started make difference bettween SAAS and cloud in website because we are finishing to set the keys of the services.
