What are you executing from terminal to starting openkm ?
Which are folders created into /opt ?
Which ubuntu version do you have 32 or 64 bits ?

the openkm-community-5.1-linux-installer.run is located in Downloads folder and I right click the file and select run from terminal. the installer start the installation and once it is completed. Start OpenKM or Stop OpenKM did not show up on Desktop. I go to Home Folder and click "Start OpenKM" It said "could not display "/home/user/openkm-5.1/openkm_start.desktop" is not a folder.
Also, can openKM install on Ubuntu Desktop or has to be install on ubuntu server

Seems direct desktop icon start up has some problem. You should get in your server /home/user/openkm-5.1/jboss-4.3.2.GA/bin folder, simply go there and execute in terminal run.sh -b 0.0.0.0
After it you should considering install openkm as service
