Checkout leads to read-only file

I'm running v5.1.9 on an openSuSE 12.1 system.

Don't know what I am overlooking but I can't get a proper editing sequence to run. I have OpenOffice writer (odt) files in the repository. My understanding is that I can checkout an object, work on it and then check it back in as new version. Now, when I checkout the object, it is stored as a file in the /tmp folder of my system and LibreOffice opens properly. But the file is read-only, so that I can't make any changes.

Could someone please explain how this is supposed to work? I couldn't find anything in the wiki.

This behaviour is defined in the browser configuration. I think you can save the file and once stored locally, can be edited without problems. Or directly open and edit, and after that select the "Save as..." option.

Hi I had the same problem, but...

If you check out a document, the browser asks you to open it, or save it.
If you choose to open it, the browser downloads it to some temp directory -- then the file is read only.
If you choose to save it, you can save it to your local working dorectory, and from there you can then open it, edit it, and upload it to OpenKM when you do a check-in.

It makes sense if you think about it:
You don't want to be working on documents in your browser's temp directory, because the browser could remove them at any time (e.g. when you exit your browser).

BTW thanks to the wonderful OpenKM people for such a great system!
