is there any possibility to have a preview of postscript files (application/postscript)? Might be possible either through convert or
using ps2pdf.

It should be implemented, but as you say is simple on a Linux server. I will add your petition to be added in a future OpenKM release (http://issues.openkm.com/view.php?id=1587).
