Restore data from filesystem copy of repository?

I have a copy of an entire 'repository' folder from an installation that was acting up (404 error trying to access localhost:8080/openkm). I couldn't fix that, so reinstalled OpenKM on another machine. 404 error is gone, of course, but the problem is - how do I extract the data from that folder that I have saved? I didn't run a backup or anything like that. I tried simply replacing the contents of the new 'repository' folder with the contents of the old one, but now OpenKM throws an error right after login and won't load past the first two squares in the progress bar. Also tried to import the folder through the menu - but ended up with a huge copy of the filesystem within OpenKM - nothing was actually parsed.
Should I just browse the folder and salvage what I can manually or there is an automated way to do that?

The process of restoring ( restore a backup ) have two steps, one is restore the repository folders but at the same time you must restore the backup of the database I think this is the step you missed.

1- stop openkm
2- start openkm
3- share the openkm.log file to take a look about the errors shown in the log file
