For this huge amount of files we recommed specialized software. In case virtualized scenario you have software for doing incremental snapshots ( good option in VM ). Also you have client-server backup software like bacula among others what does incremental backups of the file system at the same time they can take control of database script backup.

We do not recommend rdiff-backup, etc... in this scenarios. Also powerful hardware comes with automatic distributed backups moving data between cabinets etc... making automatic mirrors etc...
