Is it possible to upgrade lucene independent of OpenKM?

Must apply changes in the source code for it, as is now is not possible. If you want to help us on it you are welcome and we can try suggest you some directions.

It depends on the Hibernate Search dependency. Lucene is included as a transitional dependency, so I think you can't upgrade to a major version.
