File uploader not working

Hi everyone.
We've recently installed OpenKM v6.2.4 for testing.
Everything works perfectly up 'till now. We're having trouble with the "File Uploader". It opens without trouble, and I'm able to drag a file to the window, but then nothing happens. It flashes quickly in the "Drop files here"-bottom bar, and then nothing happens.
I've tried both the one setup on our own server, and the demo at
http://demo.openkm.com/OpenKM/frontend/index.jsp but the same thing happens.
I'm using firefox, but have also tried Internet Explorer which is no better.
I'm running the latest Java (v1.7.0_25)
I've looked at the java-console which shows the following:

Google chrome is not available in 64 bit for Mac osx.
So GC is not possible for us as far as I know.
Tried safari and Firefox without luck.

We're going to have OpenKM being used by many different individuals from various companys, so we can't control which browser they use. And we don't suspect that chrome is necessarily the standard browser for any of these individuals.
So we need to have the file uploader functioning in both Internet Explorer, Firefox and Chrome.

Too many requirement. I think you should become a customer because you can't expect high quality support without spending some money. As you can guess we can't offer the same support in the Community version.
Recent Java release was causing problems with Firefox but not with Chrome (In don't know why) and we have dedicated many hours to solve this problem in OpenKM Professional because or costumers pay for it. I think these improvements will be migrated to the Community version but may delay several months depending on our roadmap.

I don´t know any company where chrome is the default browser. At least Internet Explorer and Firefox should be supported out of the box as both are the most common browsers used in company environments!
I´m testing okm for a few days now but more and more I have doubts that it is the right product for me. My overall impression on the first days was very good if you just use it with minimal requirements. But now as okm is installed the way I like it and I start testing the features I´m slowly get frustrated. If I have to wait month for such a major feature to get fixed the whole solution is not usable for me. I mean bug fixing is one thing but keeping essential solution away from free community is another thing. I understand that users of professional version pay for the support and more features but a free version should work as well with all features included.

I don't know what you mean with "keeping essential solution away from free community". The main problem here is that many people want a nice and working solution for free. But little people contributes with fixes or new features (almost nobody). For this reason we provide a Professional version, with better support and more features.
Some bugs are easy to fix, but others not. In this case the file uploader take several hours to get fixed. And nobody give us the solution, of course. If this problem still persist in the Community version, tell us and will investigate if the path was applied also to the Community branch
In other words, if you need a nice and supported OpenKM, pay for it. If don't want to pay ( you can use the Community version, of course ) don't expect problem to be fixed in a couple of hours. Or contribute with source fix, or anything else you think will help.
I think these kind of problems can be solved removing features from Community, so less bug will be found and the people will be happier.

Hi,
thanks for you reply. What I wanted to say is exactly the same you stated in your last sentence. If features don´t work remove them

If people can access features they will do and if they are not working they get frustrated. I spent a lot of time to find out why it is not working.
If you see all my posts here I always try to share my knowlege with others so that the next one who has a similar problem can easily participate. But you are right others might only demand. I would even pay for a home solution but not the prices I have read here in the forum for the professional solution. Up to 50 € for a home solution (that is working

) are absolutely ok. I think nobody needs to have all the features the prof. version has for home usage. You should realy think about that!
But back to the initial problem. My fist installation is on OS X. As the uploader is not working with Java 7 and Firefox and Safari also Chrome is no option because the JavaPlugin is only available in 64 bit but Chrome on OS X is running as 32 bit. So the only option is to go back to Java 1.6. Finaly it is working at least with Safari. With Firefox I still cannot use the File Uploader. So I have a workaround but not the solution as Firefox is my default browser.
Please don´t take it personaly I absolutely understand you concept. But If you say that the improvements will be migrated to the Community version with a delay of several month we are not talking about weeks anymore. Nobody (at least me) is expecting fixes within ours. But for really big issues a hot fix within a shorter time frame than months would be great. If you really want to use the system at least main features should work. Maybe you should publish a list with known issues and a planned fix date. Just to give users some transparency.
Thanks for you understanding!

Then remove the File Uploader is an option for you?
About 50€ for a working personal OpenKM I think is something wrong: OpenKM is the product of many years and many people. This people need also to eat and pay its bills. Sorry but 50€ is not enough. With 50€ you can pay about an hour of work, and can be used to fix a single problem. If you have expend many time testing OpenKM sorry, but we have dedicate thousand of ours maintaining the Community version and we have received very little from the community users.
Don't want to pay? Ok, make other kind of contributions. As I said in other post, the problem is with Firefox and recent Java plugin. Why don't send a bug report to Firefox or Oracle?

It's all about your marketing goal. Top price targeting professionals or lower price targeting average users.
BTW, still waiting your intra-European valid VAT number to order.

Seems this is the typical large forum post talking about what means open source that for some reason seems is synonim of free.
First of all, consider OpenKM is a product, behind there's a company with some developers which working only for it seven days a week. Thank to our customers we're which pays the team company costs are able to continue with the project and share with "no cost for use" in a open source way. Last year we've freely open all documentation which was closed in what we consider more professional, now all is open.
What we're looking for open source community openkm users:
1- Pleased users who are using OpenKM, recommend it.
2- Collaborate with project, work in modules or new features, send patches, etc... ( for it we shared code in open source way )
For us the point one is enought, we understand all openkm users can not be customer althought the cost - for my point of view - is not expensive specially in Software As Service mode. All our effors goes in direction customer have as good service as possible and with freely time, not so much we like to have, spend to solve community problems. Customers are which really supported the project, and that's why we can share application to the community. I think - hope - our image between open source community users be good, we do not want to be the evil, but we do not have more hands and time.
Althought we've been able to create a community of users, and a partner network of developers we've not been able to involve open source community developers, I do not know why. We're received some patches, that a lot of all people who collaborate on it, but really few people. Be a java application can be part of the problem, less qualified java developers ( less market ), althought in project can collaborate in several ways ( maintaining documentation etc... ).
What my college has tryed to say is we would like to spend more time in community version but we have not much as we would like and we concentrate in what consider more critical bugs. Our actual strategy is realease a one version each year. We get one version from our internal branch, which for us is stable and well tested ( obviously sometimes we make some mistakes or some minimal change creates collateral bug ).
We need more collaborators two or tree not much, in community which be able to spend few hours a week, where we're not able to arrive us. If somebody knows how arrive that people tell us. What we offer ? if demostrate is involved into project we can offer several things, for example help on understanding application, or in create new modules for his company, or professional version at no cost etc... but meanwhile will not be able to get direct collaborators with community version we'll not be able to correct all bugs in few time, only by priority.
Hope this can clarify the situation.
