I've searched the words redact and redaction with no results. I'm sorry if this topic has already been covered.

A feature that is very important to us is the ability to redact documents within the system. This would be as simple as drawing a black box around an area on a scanned image. This would allow our users to easily black out social security numbers, etc..

It would be nice if the redacted document could be stored for public consumption while the original could be kept for users with the permissions to see it.

Also, it would be nice to create a redacted template for scanning images that will always have a particular zone blacked out.

Thanks for reading.

You're talking about scanning problems no ?
You want to extract some metadata from some document zone ?
And want pdf documents with images into pass to OCR ?

is that ?

Thank you for responding. I'll try and clarify.

It's not about OCR. It's about drawing a black box around predifined coordinates on the scanned image. It's also about having the ability to use the mouse on scanned images already in the system to redact or conceal certain information on the scanned document...such as Social Security numbers, etc...

Solution for scanning
For example, say if one was scanning a stack of papers that always had the SSN of a person in a particular location on the paper, then it would be nice to set up a template that defines those coordinates and have openkm draw a black box around those coordinates after aquiring the image. The system would automatically black out the SNN based on coordinates defined in a template.

Solution for scanned images already in OpenKM
While viewing the image of the document in OpenKM, it would be nice to use the mouse and draw a rectangle over a portion of the image that blacks out that certain portion of the image.

The US goverment requires that certain information about a person remain private. Certain documents are public record, but certain information on those documents must be blocked out to protect the privacy rights of the individual it pertains to.

As said better if you contact with us. Could be several scenarios here:
You upload complete image without black box, and black box only appears on preview ( but then what happens when user downloading document, here it'll be a hole ). The first question is if you want to store image with all information or not. Depending answers we've got several solution, then it'll be a capture problem or a visualization one. More questions, anybody has that black box restriction or only someones ? More easily if that discussion be more directly, in minutes will understanding the problem and could propose several solutions.
